[LbNA] Stamp Carving

From: Carol McNally (carolmcnally@ev1.net) | Date: 2005-03-30 13:22:56 UTC-06:00

Hi.
I was just wondering if Stamp Carving supplies were available at local
craft stores such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby or JoAnns? I live in
Houston, Tx and would prefer to buy the materials I need locally if
possible to avoid shipping charges.

Carol:

Hobby Lobby - carving tools and pink stuff/mastercarve - try looking between the
canvasses/framing department and the model kits. Closed on Sundays.

Michaels - near the scrapbooking supplies and rubber stamps. Sunday coupons help.

Jo Ann's - hmm - I think I just bought Marvy LePlume Pens there. They carry "store
bought" stamps. Maybe someone else can advise if they have carving tools and material.
Sunday coupons help.

I'm sure Houston also has it share of specialty art supplies stores.

Or near the art supplies--linoleum carving, sketchbooks, markers,
paintbrushes. That's where they are at my Michael's.

Hi!

If you have a Michael's be sure to look around since it sounds like the stores are not all arranged the same. At the stores in our area the carving tools and media are not kept by the rubber stamps and scrapbooking stuff, but instead are across the store in the area where they have the blank art sketch books and calligraphy pens. (The Le Plume markers ARE by the pre-made rubber stamps, if you're also looking for those.)

I got my speedball stampeez kit and extra mastercarve at Texas Art Supply. There is on in the Heights area and one on Voss just north of Westheimer. There may be more, but I am not sure.

I couldn't find anything at my Hobby Lobby or Michaels, but I may have just looked in the wrong places..

Hi,
Stamp carving supplies are only available from the largest of the Michael's stores (the "A" stores). The other Michaels have stamps and inkpads only.

I found a Speedball stamp carving set and additional carving materials and
supplies at Michaels in Keller. Surely a Houston Michaels would have them,
too.

Some Michaels carry that and some don't. Only the largest Michael's (an "A" store) carry the stamp carving supplies. The others only have stamps and ink pads. Believe me . . . I work for them.

Speedball carving kit, made by Speedball: It's got a carving tool (handle
and two different blades that fit into the handle), some pink stuff carving
medium, and a little booklet that explains how to use it. It's actually much
easier to use than I'd thought it would be, but you still need an x-acto knife
or art knife. You can also buy the carving tool, blades, carving stuff
separately. I found it in the art supplies dept. at Michael's.
